LITHOGRAPH SERIES SERVANTES - DON QUIXOTE 1988-1991
The graphic series (colour lithography) to Servantes's "Don Quixote" is one of my plastic interpretations of the Spanish literary masterpiece. I did not directly follow the plot of the romance but being provoked by the philosophical treatment of the text by the Spanish philosopher Unamuno in his essay on Don Quixote I looked not for the grotesque in the intrigue but for the existence of the protagonist where the spiritual strove to break free from the inert material and come closer to God.
The sixty projects to the series were made in 1984 and the graphics proper were executed from the end of 1988 to April 1991 - for about three years. The graphic sheets resemble paintings. The specific impact was deliberately searched for and it was achieved by superimposing of colours, averagely between 15 and 20, fixed by about 9 strokes of the lithographic press, and the printing of the lithographs is from 20 prints. All the lithographs were made at the graphic base of the Union of Bulgarian Artists in the town of Samokov. Masterprinter - Gueno Guenov, assistant-printer - Nikolai Koustov.
